MuRR is a Korean female trio Gugak creative group composed of “Her Sae-Rom” for Saenghwang, Taepyeongso, and singing, “Song Ni-Eun” for Handpan and Cajon, and “Ji Hye-Ri” for Piri and Daepiri. Based on ‘Her Sae-Rom’s composition, all the members who could play at least two musical instruments as multi-players participate in the arrangement, which achieves the harmony between Western instruments and Korean traditional musical instruments that could be unfamiliar, and also delivers happiness and comfort to the public with familiar sensitivity.
MuRR that started [DADAL-DALDAL PROJECT] to release the sound source of a music every month since its formation in 2017, is actively performing in various offline & online stages such as ‘MuRR TV’, ‘Daldal Concert’, and ‘Art, Spreading the Sky’ which is a regular performance of Incheon International Airport.
MuRR that is establishing its own unique style with no division of genre such as Gugak, jazz, blues, and new age music, clearly shows its sincerity in music. Owing to the original color that has been charmingly improved and polished, the shiny passion of MuRR is beautiful.
2. Introduction of Album
<Starry Night> is the first regular album of MuRR which is a Korean female trio Gugak creative group that represents modern people’s lives and delivers comfort to them with universal messages found from nature and daily life.
Of total 40 digital singles created through [DADAL-DALDAL PROJECT] to release a music every month since 2017, the pieces of music a lot loved by the public were specially selected to be contained in this album. In the album <Starry Night>, MuRR that has performed its own unique music without limitations of genre such as Gugak jazz, and blues reveals total 11 different colors representing them for four years such as ‘Garibong Blues’ that was the beginning of a series of [DADAL-DALDAL PROJECT], ‘Wind Swing’ with charming free melodies, and ‘flower dance’ and ‘Singosan Taryeong’ created with a motif of folk songs.
Numerous stars in the sky are shining while holding its own story inside. Regardless of its brightness and inside story, once they get together, they become a ‘comfort’ that brightens up the dark night sky. Just the same, MuRR is also cozy and warm as it sings focusing on human. They are not only pulling up emotions, but also arousing empathy in the viewpoint of each individual. Each gap is densely filled with breathes of MuRR, so the story is always full of life. This is the reason why their music is always varied.
With a goal to release 100 sound sources, they already arrived at the halfway point by releasing the 40th sound source, and now they aim to leave the interim record. They have constantly run, so the place where their footprints move towards is clearer than ever. Just as a delicately-shining star in the night sky that lights up the vision when a hope of dawn is still fearful after darkness, the first regular album <Starry Night> of MuRR is their sincerity that would be settled down in our hearts.
3. Introduction of Project
[DADAL-DALDAL PROJECT] is a monthly sweet music project that releases a music every month.
The serious consideration to find the form of MuRR was led to the efforts to release a sound source every month, which is already working as their promise with the public. The project that began in 2017 has been already performed four years with the outcomes of 40 pieces of music.
Their singing and unique instruments such as Saenghwang, Taepyeongso, Handpan, Cajon, Piri, and Daepiri were harmonized with their thoughtful and polished expression, and together with their territory expanded with various works without limitations of genre, the name MuRR became unique and characteristic. Through performance and work, their experiment is continued while their growth has never stopped.
Through [DADAL-DALDAL PROJECT], MuRR has delivered the positiveness such as bright energy, courage, and refreshment in the relaxation of daily life. There will be another new records of 60 pieces of music that would be warm as the last traces of 40 pieces of music.
4. Introduction of Music
Wind Swing
The dramatic turnover through change of speed is the charm of this music. The piano melody and ‘Daepiri’ that are lightly and freshly performed just as dancing, with a Korean traditional wind instrument ‘Saenghwang’, make people automatically move their bodies just as the meaning of Swing. ‘Wind Swing’ is the wind-like melody that arouses excitement.
Garibong Blues
Taepyeongso’s free melody opens the muzzle of ‘Garibong Blues’. Just as shown in its title, the strong scent of blues could be felt. This music composed of Cajon’s rhythm, Andy Kim’s piano solo performance, and MuRR’s unique individuality, describes the image of Garibong-dong filled with people and vitality as a city of opportunities in the 1970s-1980s.
Pung Nyeon Ga
As a music that has reinterpreted the popular folk song ‘Pungnyeonga’, the instrument sound performed in slow tempo by MuRR presents a drowsy comfort. This music added with ‘Her Sae-Rom’s sweet voice luxuriously and classily prays for the rich year through the combination of Gugak and jazz.
Nan Bong Ga
This music was created by sampling the melody and lyrics of ‘Jajin Nanbongga’ of various ‘Nanbongga’s as folk songs with the theme of love in the northwestern part. The piano performance, vocal sound, and Daepiri’s leading that remind of the lonely look of a man standing alone in the center of lounge are sticking to our hearts and generating waves. The vibration of melody is sophisticated.
Seoul Pungnyu
A little different from other tracks, ‘Seoul Pungnyu’ that begins with sorrowful and enchanting sound of wind instrument describes the look of a person who plaintively takes each step in the city of Seoul. Even though the person is walking zigzag under the influence of liquor, actually the person is still walking toward tomorrow. Based on such warm comfort and attention delivered to everyone around us, MuRR’s varied expression of emotion is remarkable in this music.
Gari Vegas
In the 1970s-1980s when there was some energy left in the Guro Industrial Complex, ‘Gari Vegas’ that was the combination of Garibong and Las Vegas was filled with energy of young people in the industrial complex. After time passed, the changed city is dispirited now. With Saenghwang and piano that play the lonely feeling with memories, it is sorry to see the empty space to just let everything flow away.
Spring, spring
This medium-tempo swing-style music describes positive emotions like vitality and hope from spring as the season of beginning, with Daepiri, Cajon, and piano. It is MuRR’s unique communication method to spread sweet comfort by hoping that everyone could dream of fresh happiness.
A City Night
The exotic mood has been created by using Taepyeongso and Daepiri instead of Western instruments such as trumpet, based on jazz-like piano performance. The sound of Korean traditional instruments penetrating each heart is good enough to welcome the hope for upcoming tomorrow after forgetting the concerns of today.
Flower dance
MuRR’s unique ‘Flowerdance’ has reinterpreted a new folk song Flower Taryeong, based on bossa nova rhythm. ‘Her Sae-Rom’s voice that firmly keeps the balance in the center of this music, and the cheerful solo performance of Daepiri and Cajon appearing in the middle are releasing such bright energy. It is amazing to see MuRR’s positive emotion that makes everyone a beautiful ‘flower’ as soon as listening to this music.
Singosan Taryeong
The music that began with Cajon lays the basis of cheerful Gugak jazz together with piano performance. It is even thickened by melodies of Taepyeongso and Daepiri by reinterpreting the melody of a popular folk song Singosan Taryeong. The shoulders are automatically moving because of the speaker’s heart that bravely takes one step out.
Fancy Go-Out
The strong scent of blues is charming in ‘Fancy Go-Out’. ‘Her Sae-Rom’s smoky voice, accompaniment of piano and cajon sincerely playing each note and beat, and the melody of wind instrument fully playing its role by clearly dividing the boundary present the expectation of ‘hope’ for tomorrow that is vague, but certainly rising up. It is a promise of MuRR that develops the music with no time to be bored by arranging the solo performance of each individual instrument in the right place.
